Associate Professor Adrian Pearce, from the Department of Computing and Information Systems, the University of Melbourne is the Director of the Defence Science Institute.

Associate Professor Pearce is an expert and innovator in planning and scheduling for autonomous systems. Significant elements of his research have impacted the efficiency and robustness of a range of applications including command and control, air and maritime operations for the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) and more recently civilian air traffic management, and optimisation of supply chain operations in mine scheduling.

Associate Professor Pearce has contributed deeply in research on reasoning about actions within the field of artificial intelligence, he has made fundamental breakthroughs in the ability to perform collaborative planning and scheduling among groups of individual agents.

Associate Professor Pearce is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a Member of the Association for Computing Machinery, and a Senior Member of the Australian Computer Society.
